LONG
POINT BEACH PUBLIC ACCESS ADVISORY COMMITTEE FINAL REPORT
Report
# PED 13-17
Date
Prepared : February 7, 2013
Long
Point Beach is a world-class natural asset that is owned by the
Government of Ontario for
Ontarians.
Norfolk County enables and supports public access to Long Point Beach
and the beach experience through all municipally owned access points
and by maintaining prominent signage and waste receptacles at these
places, portable washrooms at appropriate locations and by making
public parking available at certain points along municipal roadways.
At
the final meeting of the LPBPAAC on February 6, 2013, the following
recommendations were
approved:
That
the Long Point Beach Public Access Advisory Committee recommends to
Norfolk
County
Council that Council take those actions necessary to implement the
following:
1.
Parking be prohibited on the north side of Erie Blvd between Pike
Lane and Austin
Parkway
and that the current signs in that location be replaced with “No
Parking” signs.
2.
The existing finger signs on Erie Blvd. and the signs at the beach
access points be
removed,
with the exception of those at Abigail Becker Parkway.
3.
The signs indicating the presence of the Provincial Parks be retained
in their current
locations.
4.
The portable toilets and the refuse containers at the beach access
points be removed,
with
the exception of those at Abigail Becker Parkway.
5.
The enforcement of the parking by-laws on all roads at Long Point be
continuous and
diligent
between the hours as posted on all days between Victoria Day Weekend
and
Labour
Day Weekend in each year.
6.
Staff be directed to investigate and implement a Norfolk Resident
Parking Pass for the
Abigail
Becker Parking Lot area.
