By Popular Demand - 'The Brochure'

With the article from Betty Chanyi in the Port Rowan Good News having been recently released regarding our first brochure, the response has been overwhelming for us to include more citizens in our distribution list.  So many of you have emailed us asking for more information about what was said on the flyer to cause such a stir, we feel compelled to list it out for you.  In the article Ms Chanyi accuses us of distributing 'misguided misinformation'.  With this being a double negative as defined in the English language, the negatives would cancel each other and the result would be "Guided Information".  That sounds correct!

Issues
Concerning
All Citizens Of

Norfolk County

There hasn't been this much excitement in Ward 1 since this spring, when there was talk about a citizen catching a 15 inch perch!

Unfortunately we are unable to put the flyer online because of it's initial page design.  The points that we made and brought to the attention of the citizens were as follows :

Norfolk County Fire Sale :

As Council struggles with rising costs their only option is to Sell Off Norfolks finest and most prized assets.

Assets recently sold include :
  • Norfolk Power $66 million
  • Backus Woods $6 million
  • 4 Acres prime industrial land in Simcoe, $100,000
Port Rowan and Port Dover's Marina's are next on the auction block.  When does it stop?

Social and Family housing has been cut by over 27 million dollars.

Are we the next Detroit?

Norfolk County has posted the following Net Financial Assets :

  • 2008  $19,547,139
  • 2009  $15,930,039
  • 2010         $20,642  *** start term of current administration
  • 2011   -$2,649,845
  • 2012   -$5,381,765
Do we trust Council to be able to get us out of the hole that they have dug or do we stand by and watch as they sell off out most valuable assets in the fire sale?

Our Roads Division expects a loss of over 30 million dollars at the end of this year alone.  That eliminates the proceeds from the sale of Norfolk Power.

Council is recommending foreclosing on citizens if taxes fall behind one year.
Shouldn't they worry about 'Their' House?

Taxes have risen 2.4% per year over four years.

Bad Taste in your mouth?

Almost as bad as the drinking water from Port Rowan?  In 2010 the County upgraded the water pumping station in Port Rowan which also includes supplying to St Williams.
In 2012, it was determined that because of the lower water level in the Bay, there is not enough water to supply the community.  Norfolk County say it will cost too much to put the line into the lake.  Wells will need to be drilled in Walsingham to mitigate the error.  We have the 2nd highest water bills in the Province already.

Yet another costly error that the tax payers will cover.

Doing it right the first time saves money.

Why restrict access to the public, including our seniors and disabled?

Not healthy enough to walk a kilometer to get to the trail?
Sorry, you can't drive there either.
Access Denied.
The illegal closing of our common road, the 4th Concession of South Walsingham is not only against the law but also restricts people from getting to the trail system.
Our Ward 1 Councilor put forth the recommendation to keep the public from even having access to toilets and that we remove the parking at the beach.  Pay the bill but don't expect easy access and services.

The Nature Conservancy of Canada has purchased over 5,100 acres of land in Norfolk County and controls another 3,300 acres.

8,400 acres of prime agricultural land.

The Long Point Regional Conservation Authority owns 9,500.  When will it also be sold to NCC?  Backus Woods was already sold.  What's next?

NCC owns more than $50,000,000 in property in Norfolk but claims it only pays +/- $70,000 in property taxes.  A citizen would have paid over $150,000 in taxes and it does not include the homes that are being destroyed.  Good bye neighbours.

Who will pay the difference?  You will.

2278 Voters turned out in the last election.  Will you vote this time or watch as Council sells you out?

Cover your 'Assets'.  Voice your opinion.
