Norfolk County Council: Thank You for Listening to your constituents!

Thank you for all of the concerned Citizens that made the hazardous drive to the Council meeting on Tuesday.

We want to say thank you to Council for allowing Mr. Squires and Mr. Kenline to delay the meeting regarding the 4th Concession Closure until December 10th when their lawyer will be present and they will be prepared to continue.  We were very disappointed that the meeting had been moved up at the last minute, however, are pleased with Council’s decision to move the meeting to the later date.  We're not sure why it was moved ahead in the first place though.

Sale Proceeds from Backus Mill Controlled by NCC?

TAXPAYERS AND DONORS BEWARE!
(How is it that the Long Point Region Conservation Authority needs more money?)

For years the Long Point Region Conservation Authority (LPRCA) has been struggling to raise enough money to sustain their operation and the sale of Backus Woods was stated as a partial solution to this problem.  The Ward 1 community remains outraged by this sale.  However, they figured the money could be used for some good in the community. Councilor Peter Black warned against the sale in a 2008 article, in the Simcoe Reformer,

"That would really create a lot of controversy, both nationally and internationally," he said yesterday. "I know that right now. That to me is a non-starter."

Councilor Black unfortunately was unable to stop the sale and it is rumoured that is why he is no longer on the LPRCA Board of Directors after 17 years.

Mayor Travale VS The Boys In Blue.

So the Norfolk County Mayor Dennis Travale just can't stop talking about the grief that the OPP costs keep giving him.  With the Cops expecting a raise of 8.8% this year and the Mayor stomping his feet about this being unsustainable let's put the numbers to the test, shall we?

Norfolk County Planning and Economical Development Department - Stats Expanded

Thank you for your overwhelming response to our
“Planning for a Zombie Apocalypse” article.

It’s been one of our most read posts and strengthens our views that the Citizens of Norfolk County want to stay informed about what is happening to the community. Either that or there are a lot of believers in Zombie Apocalypses!

Unfortunately for those people, we’re sorry to say that Norfolk County does not appear to have a plan after all. It should be noted that a Mock Zombie Apocalypse could be something for which Norfolk could plan. If our Tourism Department took it upon themselves to promote such an event, it could be the largest in Ontario. We’d suggest Delhi because of their recent problems with Harvest Fest. There’s not nearly as many farms left in the County for Harvest Fest and likely no Engineered Drawings would be required for the Zombie Fest.  We're sure the Halls in Delhi would appreciate the ‘walkers’ and would be best suited for accommodating them.

Another Blow to Area Famers

On February 14th, 2013 Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway, and U.S.-Brazilian private-equity group 3G Capital (owner of Burger King and a piece of Anheuser-Busch InBev) purchased H.J. Heinz  for $72.50 per share (a 20%) premium with the total value of $28 billion.

9 months to the day they've announced that they will be closing the Leamington, Ontario plant.  This decision will result in the layoff of 740 employees over the next 6 - 8 months as operations wind down.  The Heinz factory has been an icon of the community since it's inception in 1909 and gave Leamington the handle 'Tomato Capital of Canada'.  With a population of 28,000 this is a serious blow to all residents in the area.  Municipal coffers will be seriously affected with the tax income on all sides being lost.  Will the landmark building now become an eyesore?

What do Seniors, The Disabled/Differently Abled and Deer have in Common?

Answer: The Nature Conservancy of Canada wants nothing to do with you.

...Except for your donations of course!

How else can you explain all of the barriers and fences with which they are surrounding their properties?  This year alone, NCC has installed countless miles of fencing in Norfolk County and every entrance to a property has a gate denying access to the Elderly and Disabled/Differently Abled.  The baby fawns simply die alongside the fence as their mothers bound over them leaving them behind.

Citizens Turfed from Long Point Region Conservation Authority Meeting

We've received an email from a senior citizen saying that he and a younger resident were asked to leave the November 6th meeting at the LPRCA, just for being there.

Both residents were concerned with the neglect of Backus Mill and wanted to listen to the public meeting so they would know what was going on in the effort to get the Mill repaired.  They were allowed to listen in while the acceptance of the last meetings motions were being discussed.

As soon as new business was to be discussed the pair were asked to leave the meeting by Ms Betty Chanyi and then by Mr. Cliff Evaniski.
